you are probably thinking of talking to someone about problems in your life.
Perhaps you are having difficult feelings about an important person in your
life. Perhaps you are having problems at work. Or perhaps there is something
else going on in your life that you want to explore because of its emotional
impact or private nature.
Each person and his or her feelings are unique and
different. But many of us benefit from exploring our feelings and thoughts
about our problems with another person. Friends, family members and mentors are
all important to each of us. But what someone who is close to you may lack is a
trained ear for listening, the experience of dealing with similar problems, and
objectivity in listening to you.
That is where a trained therapist, such as myself, can be
helpful. I have been practicing psychotherapy for over twenty years. In that
time, I have worked with people from all walks of life. I am trained and
experienced in helping with anxiety, depression, chronic pain and medical
illness, grief, loss, infertility, adoption, relationship issues, parenting,
and life transitions such as marriage and partnership commitments, divorce,
professional changes, family changes and retirement.
The feelings underlying any of these circumstances are often
hidden from the self. Understanding them can be liberating and can foster
personal growth. Long term or short term work, or even a few counseling
sessions, can make a difference.
